D52 class is the biggest steam locomotive for a freight in Japan. It was built for the wartime transport of the main line. From 1943 to 1947, the manufacturing industries, Kisha-Seizo, Kawasaki, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Nippon-Sharyo, JNR Takatori Works, and JNR Hamamatsu Works, had produced the 285 cars of this class. The built of over 400 locomotives were planned. However, the plan was stopped, because the war ended. These had been used to 1973. Then now the 7 cars are kept everywhere.
