Luodong Forest Railway
In the 1970s, sculptor Mr. Nobuo Noguchi visited Taiwan and photographed steam locomotives operating on the Luodong Forest Railway. Thanks to his generosity, we are honored to present some of his valuable photographs here on "Kurogane no Michi." The Luodong Forest Railway, part of the Forestry Bureau's Taipingshan system, mainly referred to the section between Zhulin and Tuchang. Passenger trains also operated on this line, and steam locomotives were used until the end. Unlike the more famous Alishan Forest Railway, this line was less known, but today its modest charm evokes a sense of nostalgia. After a typhoon damaged the line in the late 1970s, it was not repaired and was officially closed in 1979.
