Sujiatun steam locomotive museum April 1999
The YH class is the large locomotive for the freight that was designed in the 1930's in the Soviet Union. Gradually the railroad of the Soviet Union was electrified. With it a steam locomotive became surplus. But China railway was lacking a steam locomotive. In 1958 China and the Soviet Union exchanged the contract that locomotive exports. About 1000 steam locomotives went to China and regauged to 1435 mm. In commemoration of this case, China named this locomotive with the Youhao (meaning of friendship) class. Several years later the relation between China and Soviet Union deteriorated. By that reason, this locomotive was called the FD (Felix Dzherzhinsky) class now.
