The Taipei Railway Nos. (Taihoku Railway, 臺北鐵道株式會社) 1 and 2 locomotives, used on the Wanhua (萬華) – Xindian (新店) line, were built in 1920 by H.K. Porter in the United States. H.K. Porter specialized in the manufacture of small industrial locomotives. The company standardized the designs of its locomotives and kept parts in stock in advance, enabling it to manufacture and supply locomotives quickly in response to orders. The Taipei Railway opened in 1921. It was the only privately operated general-service railway of 1,067 mm gauge in Taiwan that survived until the end of World War II. After the war, it became the Taipei Railway Company, and in 1949 it was acquired by the Taiwan Railway Administration and became the Xindian Line. A total of six locomotives were used on the railway. These two locomotives later became Taiwan Railway Administration CK2 and CK3, and remained in service until 1951.
